A Family’s Journey from a Shelter to Stability — Thanks to Supporters Like You
In the fall of 2022, a young couple arrived in Chicago seeking asylum. She was four months pregnant, and they hoped to build a better future. But after a short hotel stay, they entered the city’s shelter system—only to be separated because most shelters couldn’t accommodate couples. When she gave birth to their son, the family was together for just four days in the hospital before returning to uncertainty.
When the hospital contacted ICDI, we stepped in and within two days connected them with a kind host family who moved them into a private apartment where they could stay together. With wraparound care and case management from ICDI, they finally had the safety and stability they needed. Today, they’ve established self-sufficiency and are thriving together as a family. Thanks to supporters like you, stories like theirs happen every day at ICDI.

Asylum seekers have to wait at least six months before they can apply for public benefits—your contribution helps ICDI provide vital support during this wait period. Even a small gift can go a long way, adding to a mutual fund that helps cover rent, groceries, and other essentials for those rebuilding their lives.
100% of your donation goes directly to helping individuals and families in need.
- $50 – Supplies essential clothing, hygiene, and cleaning kits
- $100 – Covers transportation costs to medical and legal appointments and the warehouse to get essential goods
- $250 – Feeds a family of 4 for a month and provides households with items such as pots and pans
- $1,500 – Furnishes an apartment and helps a family move in—including new mattresses, basic furniture, and moving expenses. Funds a month’s rent for safe, community-based housing.
